Which languages does JingJing support?
Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, English, Burmese, Filipino, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and German. The app's menus are available in all of these languages too. You can choose any source and target language on the translation screen.
What if I run out of free characters? Can I watch an ad for more?
Yes. Each device starts with 5,000 free translation characters (a one-time allowance that does not reset monthly). If you are not subscribed, tap “Watch ad” in the quota section of Settings or in the low-quota prompt. After a short ad finishes and JingJing’s server confirms it, 500 characters are added, and you can watch another later.
“Watch ad” does not appear if your App Store storefront or device region is in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland (or cannot be determined), or while a JingJing Pass subscription is active. When no ad is available, the button is disabled with a note; please try again later. See the Privacy Policy for how ads and tracking permission are handled.
Why is speech input unavailable?
First check that microphone and speech recognition permissions are enabled. Recognition can also be unavailable because of language, device support, or network conditions. JingJing prefers on-device recognition; Apple Speech may need a network connection when on-device recognition is unavailable.
Where is translation history stored?
History stays on your iPhone and is not synced to JingJing's server. In History, you can search, swipe left to delete one item, or tap “Delete All” at the top right.
How do I delete all translation history from my iPhone?
- Open History in JingJing.
- Tap “Delete All” at the top right.
- Confirm “Delete All” in the dialog.
This immediately removes local translation history. It does not clear language preferences, appearance settings, or the random persistent device identifier.
How do I request deletion of server data?
Email hello@jingjing.app with the subject “JingJing App data deletion request.” Two kinds of data can be deleted, in different ways: stored translation pairs (they carry no device identifier, so please include the source text you want deleted, or its approximate content, languages and translation date, and we will match and delete the corresponding pairs; sentences we cannot identify will not be deleted), and the random persistent device identifier with its quota and subscription records. In app 1.1.0 and later you can also decline or withdraw storage under Settings → Translation data & consent so that no new pairs are stored.
Current limitation: the present app does not provide a screen to view or copy that identifier, so email alone may not safely locate a specific record. We will explain any verification method available at the time. If a match cannot be verified, we will not risk deleting another device's record, and we do not promise a fixed completion time.
Does deleting the app delete everything?
Choosing “Delete App” on your iPhone (not “Offload App”) removes the app's local history and preferences. The server does not receive a notice and does not automatically delete its random persistent device quota record or the stored translation pairs. Reinstalling may create a new device identifier.
Does translation text remain on the server?
Yes, but in app 1.1.0 and later you decide: before the first translation the app asks whether to store sentence pairs, whether authorized staff may read them, and whether a third-party AI may be used as backup; you can decline all of them and still translate, and change or withdraw them under Settings → Translation data & consent. When you allow storage and staff review (and for LINE official-account translations), the source and translated sentences are stored as a pair in the server database to improve translation quality, and authorized personnel may read those pairs. Stored pairs carry no device identifier, have no automatic expiration, and are kept until you ask us to delete them. If the primary service cannot complete a request, text is handled by Google's generative language service as a backup only if you allowed “third-party AI backup” in the app (the LINE official account may always use the backup; app versions before 1.1.0 never do). Requests already sent are not recalled. Please do not enter personal information you would not want kept. See the Privacy Policy for details.
